The California and Metro Forecast is a comprehensive, economic forecast of California and eight metropolitan areas in northern California. Metropolitan areas covered by the forecast include Fresno, Merced, Modesto, Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, and Stockton. The Forecast provides historical data and a 4-5 year forecast of key economic indicators such as employment by industry, labor force, and unemployment rates, personal income, population growth, and housing starts for California and each metro area. Data and forecasts are provided in quarterly formats. Finally, the forecast also includes commentary and insight on key trends and issues impacting the state and regional economy.
Updates of the California and Metro Forecast have been suspended. The California and Metro Forecast was published 3-4 times per year by the Business Forecasting Center and subsequently the Center for Business and Policy Research (CBPR) from 2006 to 2018. The last update was released in February 2019 and can be downloaded from this page.
CBPR is considering a reformatted annual forecast publication covering California and the Northern California Mega-Region with a special focus on the North San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento metropolitan areas. Please contact CBPR if you are interested in sponsoring this project.
While the Center is no longer updating its detailed forecast publication, Dr. Michael still gives updated economic trends and outlook presentations for California, the Northern California Mega-Region, the North San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento metropolitan areas.
